Martin Luther King Jr.

1929–1968

Minister at the march and the jail

The dream was spoken on August 28, 1963, partly departed from the written text. The letter from Birmingham is slower and more legal. The mountaintop sermon was the night before he was killed. They are three different sentences, and all three are his.

In the canon

  1. I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.Address at the March on Washington
  2. Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.Letter from Birmingham Jail
  3. I may not get there with you. But I want you to know tonight, that we, as a people, will get to the promised land.I’ve Been to the Mountaintop
