Paul the Apostle

c. 5–c. 64

Letter-writer of the early church

His letters are arguments with particular churches, which is why they swerve. First Corinthians 13 is the swerve everyone knows. The line about money, in a later letter, is narrower than the proverb made of it.

In the canon

  1. And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity. The First Letter to the Corinthians
  2. For the love of money is the root of all evil. The First Letter to Timothy
